Aussiemite: A savoury gluten free spread from down under

I was bought up on a certain yeast based savoury spread – the one you either love or hate – and I love it. So Aussiemite is slightly preaching to the converted with me.

But this spread is slightly mellower and – dare I say it – more palatable than the one beginning with M. So if you have any haters in your family, this could be a brilliant alternative. And it’s certainly way nicer than that other Aussie/American import Vegemite.

I’ve had a jar sitting on my desk for weeks now and I’ve dipped carrot sticks in it. I’ve spread it on rice cakes. And I’ve stirred it into soups to give them a bit of kick. All lovely mouth-watering stuff.

Aussiemite is gluten free, vegetarian and doesn’t use artificial colours or preservatives, and only uses ethically-sourced GM free ingredients. What’s not to love about that?

You can buy a jar of the black stuff for about a fiver in Waitrose if you’re quite posh and Selfridges if you’re really posh.
