Truly Scrumptious: Gluten Free Ingredients from Truly Simple Foods
After all the excesses of Christmas, including numerous gluten free mince pies, it’s been nice to spend January eating healthy, homemade grub.
We’ve been helped on our quest by our friends over at Truly Simple Foods in Nottingham who offer a range of delicious cooking products including sauces, purées and seasonings that have no added salt or sugar, and are gluten and dairy free.
Sun-Dried Tomato, Red Peppers & Basil Cooking Sauce
So first up we tried the sundried tomato, red peppers and basil pasta sauce, which I had as a post workout meal with some GF pasta and rocket.
My first reaction was ‘this tastes…ummm…different.’ And then I realised what it actually tasted of was tomatoes. Like, real, proper tomatoes. In contrast to most pasta sauces which taste of sugar. Truly Simply pasta sauces taste like they took a whole bunch of freshly dried tomatoes and squeezed them into a jar. Which I imagine is what they do. Pretty much. It tasted homemade. Delicious.
Coconut Curry & Spinach Cooking Sauce
Then we used the coconut curry and spinach sauce. Now I have to say that the other half makes a great Thai green curry with coconut milk and spices and all the cutting and chopping that goes with it. But if you can’t be bothered with all that malarkey and/or you’re a lazy/time strapped cook (like me) than this is a perfect replacement. It’s tangy and tasty and you can pass it off as homemade (if you had to). This sauce has been entered into the Free From awards for 2014. And I think the guys at Truly Simple are on to a winner with this one.
