Marks & Spencer Gluten Free Sarnies – too expensive?
M&S Gluten Free Sarnie
Bought these gluten free sandwiches in M&S at the weekend. Pretty tasty – although the bread fell to pieces a bit. But at £3.75 I think this is too expensive for a sarnie.
As I mentioned in the post on Warbutons gluten free bread the other week, I think we’re getting charged too much for gluten free products. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

We are most definitely charged too much for GF products! My local Tesco sells Genius bread for £2.89! Nearly 2-3x “normal” bread costs. I can’t justify it. It’s part of why I am starting to make my own GF bread. It’s a bit scandalous to make us pay way more than the average convenience product.
Not sure how this could change though? You can’t tell me that it costs THAT much more to produce GF products? Great question!

OMG, didn’t realise M and S did gf sandwiches! I agree though about the price :(
I agree Gluten Free products are too expensive. It is not a dietary choice it is medical condition.
Although I pleased to see more and more places providing for Ceoliacs in the UK.
I totally agree – all coeliac products v expensive and pharmacies cutting back on list of prescribed products. Ur penalised and exploited for having a medical condition – like Kerie said this is not a lifetsyle choice!

Came across these gluten free sandwiches whilst commuting through Paddington. Didn’t really notice the price as I was claiming on expenses but wow……£3.50 for two tiny sandwiches, quite dry sandwiches at that, was disgusting. M&S could do with improving their gluten free bread…take note of Warburtons and Genius. I will not be buying again, expenses or no expenses

Totally agree that £3.50 is way to much!
My partner is a coeliac and has been for the last 4 years. Such a nightmare for her to eat on the go!!
What would you say is a fair price for a basic sandwich/wrap??
Or a meal deal? wrap,crisps and drink?
For the egg & tomato salad I’d say nearer £2.50 max. But I recently read a report where they’d surveyed a number of GF products against their non-GF counterparts and the GF products were 180% more expensive on average. It will be quite a while before there’s any sort of parity I’m sure.
I had no idea that M&S did gluten free sandwiches but unfortunately, I won’t be buying them due to the extortionately high price of them. I hate that gluten free food is more expensive as it’s not my fault that I have an intolerance – I experience crippling fatigue and awful stomach ache. I feel like I’m being punished financially speaking and I wish there was something that could be done to bring down the cost. Since finding the solution to my problem after 8-10 years of suffering, my food bills have gone through the roof :(
I couldn’t agree more Lyndsey. But I’m afraid for now at least M&S will always say the cost of production is much higher.
